jeeez. no wonder baby Aspect bounced off of this so hard. it isn't *super* complicated? but its a lot of things i barely understand *now* all in one place, let alone 5 or 7 years ago. i think i can figure it out, but man. no wonder i hated this lmao
#.txt#coding liveblog#we learned about OOP in high school And college so like. we knew what classes are in Theory#but we didn't do a lot of coding. so stuff like getters and setters aren't Complicated?#but until we took another crack at java a few months ago. they were New and Scary#(they're still Pretty new and Pretty scary but at least I'm Aware of them now)#honestly it's ridiculous to say considering our. Literal Degree. but we only Really got our head around parameters like. earlier this year?#we understood them in theory!!!!! i promise we did#but theory and practice are WHOLLY separate concepts to us. so knowing what they are#versus how to Use them? completely different beasts.#shout out to the interactive javascript tutorial that made me figure it out#no one tell my college lecturers any of this btw they'd be mortified#or my uni lecturers for that matter#sorry guys but y'all sucked ass at teaching Me In Particular

People who don't know much about web dev will go "fuck jQuery and the enshittification of the internet! Modern sites are bloated and inaccessible!" (which, to be fair, is true) and then go on to add so many unnecessary iframes to their neocities pages that the latest version of Firefox struggles to render them
#i promise using the display: grid css property will not suddenly turn you into a silicon valley corpobro#tangentially related:#i remember seeing someone boasting that their browser game was ''handcoded javascript''#ah yes i only visit websites that make use of ethically harvested small batch fair trade javascript

Node.js Async Patterns: Callbacks to Promises
Learn how to transition from callbacks to promises in Node.js for better asynchronous code management. This guide covers the basics, benefits, and practical examples.
Introduction Asynchronous programming is a cornerstone of Node.js, allowing developers to build non-blocking, efficient applications. However, managing asynchronous code can be challenging, especially with complex nested callbacks. This guide explores the evolution of asynchronous patterns in Node.js, from callbacks to promises, providing a comprehensive understanding of how to handle…

AntStack’s Asynchronous JavaScript with Promises
Asynchronous programming plays a crucial role in a developer’s life… As a developer, we might have all dealt with asynchronous programming at least once. So when we google what is Javascript, we get results saying “JavaScript is a single-threaded, non-blocking, asynchronous, concurrent programming language…” So Javascript is single-threaded as well as asynchronous together with lots of flexibility.

Also, yes, I'm complaining and disappointed, but I won't even bother going to send feedback. I don't expect a feedback message of me to be of impact anyway.
#✫ Out of Characters ✫ | OOC#especially not given how support went when I contacted it before#at least the one time I needed to ask for getting javascript working again on my blogs went smoothly#also yes would've done my list yesterday as promised but how the dash now looks without the icons is just depressing me too much to work on#much; I try to do replies nonetheless when I have the time but like; other things just feel too meh rn#honestly I'm very worried about how tumblr evolves#and I have no idea where else even to go

I'm doing it, I did it! I officially have a place to never shut the fuck up about fic the way it deserves let's gooooooooooo!!!!!
This blog is under construction!
I am working really hard to bring you all my favorite fics, including plenty that I haven't had the time/space to add onto my previous rec lists over on my personal blog. That being said, I am a bit of a perfectionist, and there's no way to batch move everything, which means the process is a bit tedious.
At the moment, I have ensured that there's a working theme and functional tagging system, although I'm not entirely pleased/finished with the latter. I want to focus on getting more fics up now that there's a structure though, so expect changes to the tagging and navigation system in the next month or so.
While I'm working on posting all the fics I currently have backlogged, my AO3 Bookmark Collection is up to date, and will continue to be the place where I catalogue every fic I plan to share. I always pull from my bookmarks, so everything I post will live there first.
I also have submissions open, so if you have a fic you want to share (whether you have written it, or simply enjoy it as a reader), please feel free to send it in! Asks are open as well, so if you need help finding a specific fic, want to request a general vibe/topic/ect., I'd be more than happy to help! If you submit a fic and I don't post it, it's likely it's already pending in my bookmarks, and I will add it myself soon. I'll always post author submissions though, because I want y'all to be proud of your work!!
Suggestions for how to improve the structure of the blog and tags are also welcome, and you are can message those to me separately.
Lastly, I want this to be a place to celebrate all Trigun fics and authors! That means that, while the fics I read and post have a large lean towards Vashwood (due to the insane brainrot they have over me), that is by no means the only thing allowed. Please don't hesitate to submit or ask for fics with other topics, including ones that don't involve Vash or Wolfwood at all. I just wanted it to be clear that the primary focus would be Vashwood, based on what I read. All I ask is that you include the appropriate cw/tw to your submissions.
#vashwood#trigun#vashwood fic#trigun fic#this is for tea and the people who commented on the one post i made where i mentioned this as a possibility#i spent literally all day setting this up yesterday#like at least 8 hrs probably????#maybe more#i was up very late cause i couldn't find a theme i liked lol#and then making the tag page was a fucking nightmare#do you know tumblr doesn't support javascript on pages you add to your blog????????#like what the fuck WHY#who the hell made that decision i just want to TALK I PROMISE#i can't fucking code but ppl who do code use javascript cause why the hell WOULDN'T YOU#and not being able to use javascript meant i couldn't use like any page themes that other people coded#so that's why the tag page does not look very nice#i essentially had to learn very basic html to make it#anyway this looks infinitely better on desktop than mobile but i'm working on it#the point is it functions and i'm gonna focus on the fic part now#so come send me stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JPD - Portfolio [ Preview ] + [ Code ]
here is a free portfolio page! It does have javascript in the code though, however, so it's better suited on a sideblog as the main theme, unless you contact tumblr support and get approval for the javascript on a page attached to your main blog. [ here is how to do it from @glenthemes ]
Header Image: 1200 x 600 About Image: 200 x 200 Portfolio Images: 160 x 90 ( if it's bigger or smaller it'll cover to fit the set size of 160x90 ).
credits here
this is where you'll change all of the colors and the header image. everything else is done in the code. I have commented things, but you still might need some html knowledge to be able to change some things. But you're also welcome to ask me any questions you might have.
these are all of the accent colors including the footer accent color. a3 and a5 look very similar, but they're different, I promise lol I'm giving you this guide so that you know what color changes what in the root styles.
#theme hunter#tumblr theme#theme code#idk what to tag these as lol#jpdtheme#jpdpage#i didn't make it responsive because i'm the worst i'm so sorry

A structured way to learn JavaScript.
I came across a post on Twitter that I thought would be helpful to share with those who are struggling to find a structured way to learn Javascript on their own. Personally, I wish I had access to this information when I first started learning in January. However, I am grateful for my learning journey so far, as I have covered most topics, albeit in a less structured manner.
N/B: Not everyone learns in the same way; it's important to find what works for you. This is a guide, not a rulebook.
EASY
What is JavaScript and its role in web development?
Brief history and evolution of JavaScript.
Basic syntax and structure of JavaScript code.
Understanding variables, constants, and their declaration.
Data types: numbers, strings, boolean, and null/undefined.
Arithmetic, assignment, comparison, and logical operators.
Combining operators to create expressions.
Conditional statements (if, else if, else) for decision making.
Loops (for, while) for repetitive tasks. - Switch statements for multiple conditional cases.
MEDIUM
Defining functions, including parameters and return values.
Function scope, closures, and their practical applications.
Creating and manipulating arrays.
Working with objects, properties, and methods.
Iterating through arrays and objects.Understanding the Document Object Model (DOM).
Selecting and modifying HTML elements with JavaScript.Handling events (click, submit, etc.) with event listeners.
Using try-catch blocks to handle exceptions.
Common error types and debugging techniques.
HARD
Callback functions and their limitations.
Dealing with asynchronous operations, such as AJAX requests.
Promises for handling asynchronous operations.
Async/await for cleaner asynchronous code.
Arrow functions for concise function syntax.
Template literals for flexible string interpolation.
Destructuring for unpacking values from arrays and objects.
Spread/rest operators.
Design Patterns.
Writing unit tests with testing frameworks.
Code optimization techniques.
That's it I guess!

Gonna try to get some major site work done this week. 💪💪💪💪💪
I'm going to try to fix a small slightly annoying page loading issue I'm having. To summarize, the dynamic generation of the comic page images that I'm doing with JavaScript is making everything but the comic page image load first and it makes a weird jump effect that is not only eye straining but just annoying. I'm gonna try to fix this because fuck it's annoying. No idea why it's even doing that. I'll figure it out.
Alongside that, I'll work on the transcripts and archive pages some more. I think I briefly mentioned that I'm gonna revamp those a bit. Still figuring out what I wanna do visually (and making it as accessible/user-friendly/device responsive as possible, of course).
After those are done, I'll work on uploading V2. I'm hoping to have a lot more progress by the start of July but I can't make promises. The medical emergency wasn't an anticipated thing and it really threw me off both physically and motivation wise
Still taking input and suggestions for features etc! I can't promise or guarantee implementation but I'm open to hearing suggestions and I've used them before :]

Tumblr.js is back!
Hello Tumblr—your friendly neighborhood Tumblr web developers here. It’s been a while!
Remember the official JavaScript client library for the Tumblr API? tumblr.js? Well, we’ve picked it up, brushed it off, and released a new version of tumblr.js for you.
Having an official JavaScript client library for the Tumblr API means that you can interact with Tumblr in wild and wonderful ways. And we know as well as anybody how important it is to foster that kind of creativity.
Moving forward, this kind of creativity is something we’re committed to supporting. We’d love to hear about how you’re using it to build cool stuff here on Tumblr!
Some highlights:
NPF post creation is now supported via the createPost method.
The bundled TypeScript type declarations have been vastly improved and are generated from source.
Some deprecated dependencies with known vulnerabilities have been removed.
Intrigued? Have a look at the changelog or read on for more details.
Migrating
v4 includes breaking changes, so if you’re ready to upgrade to from a previous release, there are a few things to keep in mind:
The callback API has been deprecated and is expected to be removed in a future version. Please migrate to the promise API.
There is no need to use returnPromises (the method or the option). A promise will be returned when no callback is provided.
createPost is a new method for NPF posts.
Legacy post creation methods have been deprecated.
createLegacyPost is a new method with the same behavior as createPost in previous versions (rename createPost to createLegacyPost to maintain existing behavior).
The legacy post creation helpers like createPhotoPost have been removed. Use createLegacyPost(blogName, { type: 'photo' }).
See the changelog for detailed release notes.
What’s in store for the future?
We'll continue to maintain tumblr.js, but we’d like to hear from you. What do you want? How can we provide the tools for you to continue making cool stuff that makes Tumblr great?
Let us know right here or file an issue on GitHub.
Some questions for you:
We’d like to improve types to make API methods easier to use. What methods are most important to you?
Are there API methods that you miss?
Tumblr.js is a Node.js library, would you use it in the browser to build web applications?

CAFFEINE, CODE, AND COUCH CONFESSIONS

Warnings: coffee addiction
Tim Drake, the resident tech genius of Wayne Manor, had a mission: to teach you the intricacies of coding. Armed with a whiteboard, a stack of textbooks, and a steely determination, he embarked on this noble quest. Little did he know that unraveling the mysteries of Python and JavaScript would be the least challenging part.
Tim sat you down in the cozy corner of the Batcave, the glow of the Batcomputer casting shadows on his face. He explained loops, variables, and functions with the fervor of a preacher. But your brain? It was like a stubborn old laptop running Windows 95—slow, glitchy, and prone to crashing.
"Okay, so if you have a nested loop," Tim said, pointing at the whiteboard, "you'll need to—"
You interrupted. Again. "Wait, wait. What's a nested loop? Is it like a Russian doll situation?"
Tim sighed, rubbing his temples. "No, it's not—"
"But what if the Russian doll is an array?" you asked, eyes wide.
Tim's patience wavered. "It's not—"
"But what if the array contains Batman's utility belt gadgets?" you persisted.
He pinched the bridge of his nose. "That's not—"
Coding fatigue set in. Tim's eyes glazed over as you continued your relentless questioning. He needed a distraction—a break from the syntax and semicolons. So, he proposed a truce: "How about we take a snack break?"
You perked up. "Snacks? Now you're speaking my language."
Soon, the Batcave echoed with the rustling of chip bags and the clinking of coffee mugs. Tim brewed a fresh pot of coffee—the fifth one that day—and you raised an eyebrow.
"Tim, you're going to turn into a jittery metahuman," you warned.
He grinned, sipping from his mug. "Nah, I've built up a tolerance."
The couch beckoned, its cushions inviting. Tim abandoned the whiteboard, and you both sank into its plush embrace. Laptops forgotten, you fired up the gaming console. The Batcave's massive screen displayed the latest multiplayer shooter.
"Ready to kick some virtual butt?" you asked, controller in hand.
Tim hesitated. "Actually, can we watch movies instead?"
You raised an eyebrow. "Movies? Since when do you—"
"—binge-watch romantic comedies?" Tim finished, cheeks flushing. "I may or may not have a soft spot for cheesy love stories."
And so, you traded code for rom-coms, coffee for popcorn. Tim's head found its way to your lap, and you stroked his hair absentmindedly.
"Promise me," you said, "no more coffee. Your heart rate is rivaling the Bat-Signal."
He grumbled but complied. "Fine. But only because you're the best code-cracking partner."
As the credits rolled on the screen, Tim whispered, "Maybe I'll write an algorithm to predict our next movie choice."
You chuckled. "Or we could just flip a coin."
And there, in the dim glow of the Batcave, you realized that maybe—just maybe—love was the most complex code of all.
